Highgrade Booking present David K … Yes, it´s true! The master of funk moved from his hometown Paris to Berlin. After some unforgettable moments at Panorama Bar & Ritter Butzke he is already a part of the Highgrade-family for sure and now also joins our agency.
David K’s roots are in Paris, where he lived his entire life until 2011. He grew up steeped in the his father’s records: Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Serge Gainsbourg, Madness, Blondie, The Clash, disco, classical, czech waltz (of all these, Gainsbourg is probably what comes through the most). He started DJing in the late 80s on a makeshift set of gear, complete with a radio and tape deck, but once he hit his first rave in ‘91 he went straight for the Technics 1200s. He made his recording debut in 2002 on Sismic Music, a small Parisian house label, and soon fell in with some key figures in the Paris’ underground club scene, such as Dan Ghenacia, who brought him into the Freak n’ Chic stable, and Phil Weeks, who put out one of his earliest 12-inches, Yo Chicago, on Robsoul Recordings.
A turning point came around 2005, when Sven Väth playlisted one of David K’s tracks: Free Kit, a one-sided single with Heidi on vocals. Cocoon ended up releasing two of his records, Nutty Rush and Tender & Sugar, and gave David one of his best gigs ever: his first live set, at Cocoon Frankfurt and after this of course more gigs all around the world were following. On one of the events David was playing he crossed paths with Guy Gerber, and right away the two artists knew they shared something rare in common: an urge to make music freely, without the party as the guiding principle.
Therefore it was sure that David will work on music for Guy’s label. And his debut album will come out soon on Supplement Facts and it will represents more than a decade of artistic development.

Marcos In Dub should be a known name for all followers of Highgrade. He is always a welcome guest on Highgrade label-nights and by the way Marcos is also a resident of one of the biggest parties in Madrid - the legendary GOA parties at Fabrik Madrid with almost more than 15.000 visitors each event.
His musical background comes from the late nineties, focused in Hip Hop and Breaks in any form, from drummy to dubby beats. Soon after he discovers house and techno, being those styles the key of his sound nowadays. After developing his skills in small clubs and local radio stations as Ibiza Sónica, he decides to go one step further going deeper into music production, releasing in many digital labels from across the globe under his own name and sharing project with David Ponziano as Play the Game.
The big moment comes when he\'s chosen as resident at the GOA parties, sharing decks with the best electronic artists. As well as heading the dj booth at the Weekend club, the oldest sunday club in the city. This step opens new doors and soon he starts to work in bigger clubs and events all over the country and abroad, playing @ Watergate and Panorama Bar Berlin or 1001 club in London.
Now Marcos has his own space in the spanish scene, working non stop in the best clubs and events and developing his studio skills, receiving awesome feedbacks from dj\'s such as Laurent Garnier, Karotte or Damian Lazarus to name but a few.

From Toronto to Berlin - Highgrade Booking and Highgrade Records welcome one of the freshest import products from Canada: Noah Pred.
He is not only a talented and good looking young man... Noah founded the record label Thoughtless four years ago and did a huge amount of releases till now. His ERA ONE mix compilation on his own label which came out in April last year was highly respected and has been charted in the Best-Of lists of DMC World magazine and Headphone Commute for 2011. At the same time, his recent releases on Cynosure, Regular and Siteholder have earned a renewed focus on his distinctive production style and extensive discography. 2012 looms large for Pred, with releases for Highgrade, Thoughtless and Cynosure coming soon.
Throwing the much-loved Thoughtless label parties was a natural evolution of numerous DJ residencies held by Pred in Vancouver, Montreal and in Toronto with the legendary Fukhouse crew. The past few years have seen Noah perform extensively throughout North America, delivering highly improvised sets that always strive to meet the moment head-on.

Focus on // Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra - Rebel EP
After the Multilayer album in October 2011 and it’s subsequent successful tour, Todd Bodine, Tom Clark, Philip Bader, Daniel Dreier and Dale haven’t just been sitting around being lazy! In fact they are ready to release another new offering. The new EP from the Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra is called Rebel, and will be out on 23.01.2012. The five are also working on a performance for the Jetztmusikfestival in March 2012, in which they will work in collaboration with choreographer and ballet master Kevin O`Day, appearing alongside his ballet. More to come in the next newsletter.
On our radio show for Play.fm at the beginning of the year, we introduced our new artist from Canada: Noah Pred. Noah presented his current DJ mix for the show, but this is, of course, not the only quality he has to offer. He’s not just a DJ but also plays live and runs his own label Thoughtless. Philip Bader is not only a part of the above mentioned Orchestra, he is of course also showing his passion to music in his own releases. Finally, after some very memorable releases in recent times, Sascha Braemer and Niconé have joined forces to release a whole album together. They are well-known for their often very musical techno and house productions, and with “Romantic Thrills”, which will be released on Stil Vor Talent, they encapsulate this style while adding an extra element of sex and pop appeal, to put it frankly. All their production experience and DJ expertise seem to have streamed into this album. The tracks work like songs, unfolding their pure magic only when listened to in full. Think what you want about electronic albums, this one is so much more than a mere collection of unreleased singles. Sascha Braemer and Niconé have clearly managed to create an album with distinct and versatile stylistic aesthetics. At full length, it unfolds like a familiar narrative to many: it starts off dreaming about the club, then invades that space, letting the night progress, until it slowly comes to a reconciling end. Dachshund presents his latest release on the Berlin record label, Highgrade Records, where the beats will blister through the speakers in unexpected combinations and grooves. Around every corner there seems to lurk a new mad idea or sound sequence from Dachshund, who leads his listeners equally as he misleads them on the dancefloor. With a sly musical wink, he offers us three tracks \"Shall We\", “Soul Free\" and \"Tell Me\" produced with sophistication and elegance. This is the equivalent of a relaxing invitation to dance: \"Shall We”? … But, of course.
Despite their different backgrounds and approach, both Todd and Markus have now found their way into the highest league of the international techno scene. Now with their co-production “Coming Home“, they realize the creative synthesis of a real collaboration – and the results can clearly be heard. Philip Bader ranks as one of the old hands of the Berlin electronic music scene and is also one of the latest recruits reaching the wide Highgrade family. The natural born Berliner has not only developed as a DJ, but also as a producer and more recently as label founder. And now his first solo EP comes out on the home-grown Berlin label, Highgrade Records. “Wonderland Ghost” is a gift for all friends of electronic dance music. Japanease is a charity electronic dance music compilation to be released mid April 2011 worldwide on various music download services. This compilation is a contribution and effort to ease the terrible suffering resulting from the devastating disaster that happened on March 11th, 2011 in Japan. The entire income of sales will be donated to the area of Sendai/Miyagi. The compilation contains more than 100 tracks from highly respected artists from the worldwide electronic dance music scene, such as Todd Bodine and Markus Homm amongst others. Everyone involved in the project made their contributions completely free of charge. In addition to the compilation, just after the eathquake, the guys from Technique Records in Tokyo had the idea to create a record label logo T-shirt and to donate the whole income generated by the sales of the shirt. More than 160 music companies joined! Highgrade as well. The T-shirt will be ready for sale in the near future.

The people, who took a stroll at Berlin’s Spreeufer know how to value this area with its exquisite places, rampant plants and cultural possessions that form the face of berlin how it is. The high rising office buildings and investors seem to suffocate this valuable, colourful world with their dismal brigs – ‘final good’ of the already long existing investor plan ”Mediaspree’. In this teaser Sascha Braemer and his crew show a flag against the ‘mediaspree’ initiation. A fantastic hymn against the investor programms, probably affecting comprehension and sympathy for those who really create the city. It could be helped with this track, Nicone sings the shibboleth while the music invites to dance together against this development of the investor programm. ‘It’s not about money.’

The East Berlin born Alfred Heinrichs, who began as a DJ in the early nineties and has since developed a long career as a DJ and producer, now releases his first solo album. His long running and extremely successful joint project, Heinrichs & Hirtenfellner, whose 2007 album “Dark Orbit” proved to be one of the best selling and most appreciated albums of the year on Berlin’s Highgrade Records, has brought Alfred Heinrichs a significant level of experience and international acclaim. This is also due to the creative energy he has built up as the label owner of Supdub Records. It is therefore, no surprise to find his inaugural solo album “All Inclusive”, released at home on Supdub.In the last two years he has found his own musical identity and this, among other things, is the motivation for this very special and individual album.
On the 16th of May 2011, the album will be released on CD. Here the listeners embark on a journey into the new electronic universe discovered by Alfred Heinrichs. The result is a magnificent work that finds it’s own inspiring and timely place in today’s musical epoch. The album is fun, crisply flavoured and long lasting in it’s effect. The arrangements are perfectly emotionally accentuated to fit the mood. The chosen sound palette eases lovingly into action, creating an atomised and dynamic feeling of warmth. It was important for Alfred Heinrichs to work with real musicians and create a unique bond between this instrumental control and his own creative vision. The energy released between producer, vocalist, guitarist, pianist and violinist is evident in this album and the listener can feel an authentic fantasy running through the basic ideas. Stylistically, the album moves between minimal and techno, all underscored with a touch of pop. One can also describe it as a simple design, with outstanding attention to detail.

And indeed, it seems the Swiss DJ, producer and label boss doesn’t think much of sterile production and is prepared to use his sence of passion and fun to create rhythms of every kind in his work. He has already proven, with his Highgrade debut on the “Group Of Connected Heads“ compilation, his feeling for up-beat, bouncy rhythms. Nothing has changed with his first solo release on Highgrade. Groovy, original and funky, it booms from the speakers. An eventful and exciting year has just reached its end, and the next one promises to be even better! While we’re on the subject of releases ... Mihai Popoviciu\'s debut album will also be out this May on Highgrade. The preparations are in full swing ... Next week is the cover photo shoot in Berlin. We can’t tell you too much at this point, but can reveal only this: it will be colorful and amusing, perfect for the beginning of summer! And whoever wants to experience the album live will certainly have that opportunity, with a record release tour to follow, of course!
In addition, we’re going to continue to pamper you with our infamous label showcases in the Panorama Bar and Berghain. There may be a few small changes, because we have some big plans for your senses! And you can also look forward to a series of endless parties at a secret location in Berlin. Where? We will inform you at the appropriate hour ... and we’re sure you’ll be impressed!
Obviously we’ll be continuing to present our Highgrade radio shows, but probably with a theme of ‘Less Is More’: Perhaps we could say quality over quantity, but we can assure you the shows will continue to hold on to your interest. Tom Clark and Todd Bodine will be trying to act more as presenters, with interviews and special features of our artists and music. They will be discussing future record releases, current news and more… All other information can be found in the ‘On Air’ section.

And yes, the word gets around that Markus Homm´s releases are really qualitative. His style is a combination of deep and tech house ,… definitely the sort of music where you cannot sit still and for me this is the best music for an evening with all of your senses…In the C-Heads interview, we get to know that he also is a professional dancer and he tells us about the club culture in Hong Kong…

Patrick Zigon is hailing from Germany’s beautiful and inspiring city Konstanz at the Lake of Constance, which probably is one of the reasons why he drops such jaunty and fresh beats. Being active in the electronic music scene since 1996, Patrick since then eminently contributes to the establishment and development of electronic music in South Germany as a DJ, producer and promoter. 2005 he created himself his own little Traumraum (the german word for Dreamroom), which is not only the name of his production studio, but also the name of his event series @ venues such as his long-term Stuttgart based resident club Climax Institutes. His current releases and remixes perfectly mirror for what Patricks name stands nowadays - hypnotic Tech House with good portion of soul.

\"Techno freak\" goes India
DJ Daniel Dreier doesn\\\'t mind missing the World Cup for a few days. In the country for a series of gigs in different cities, he feels that India has much more to offer than the World Cup, for now at least. Daniel is a regular feature at Panorama Bar and Watergate, both of which are among the top 10 clubs in Germany and among the best in the world.
In its 10 year history, Berlin label Highgrade has always been willing to experiment, and now it heads in another new direction with the “Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra“. Friends and fans of electronic dance music will be presented with something different, and simplicity will be pushed aside for whatever the artists can imagine and create.
The “Hardware“ for a Live event like this is clear. What will be exciting in this show is the “Software“: Todd Bodine, Tom Clark, Markus Homm, Daniel Dreier and Dale aim to bundle their musical creativity and bring their audience closer to the Highgrade philosophy through the tracks they perform. In the foreground of Highgrade LIVE is the performance, pulsating rhythms will be the benchmark of quality.
This results will be presented on the 26th of June at Watergate. Very few locations could provide a better venue for the “Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra“. The club, with its unique view over the river Spree, has been one of the places most important to the Highgrade family of artists over the last few years.
You could expect nothing less from this Berlin label, which has already enriched the club scene and the spectrum of electronic music in the city for 10 years through it’s releases and events. Both individuality and creativity take center stage in the work of the musical front line. Highgrade has never worried about contraints of genre or convention. The “Highgrade Disharmonic Ochestra“ is a gift to the faithful entourage on the dance floor, and is also the perfect proof that the label is always up for a surprise.
Not only is the performance of the “Highgrade Disharmonic Orchestra“ a premiere: the three hour live show will also be the live debut for Tom Clark, Daniel Dreier and Markus Homm. By their side are Todd Bodine and Dale, two “old hands“ who have proven themselves time and again in their own Live experience.
Tom Clark // Pressure Points
Good music can sometimes be as effective as acupuncture. You just have to find the right point and with a tiny needle, it’s possible to trigger an amazing impact.
Tom Clark’s Pressure Points is just such an album, knowing exactly the right places to exert pressure and thereby leading listeners by invisible threads into a truly hypnotic and pleasurable experience.
Three years after his last album, the Highgrade co-chef and DJ now presents his third studio excursion. It has been some time in the making, for there has been a lot to do, but the time has proven well worth it. This is not a club album, as he says, Pressure Points shows something of Clark’s other side, and of his musical background.
It is a confident and complex, but perfectly coordinated album that reflects Tom Clark\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s artistic development and is orientated to the sound of his DJ sets: Groovy, deep and full of class.
Twelve tracks ranging from downbeat journeys into minimal house, pushing at all the right points of its listeners. The tracks move slowly but constantly forward and enter into your body like a subtle herbal medicine. We can hear that Tom Clark is not interested in an immediate and superficial reaction from his dancers. Here he finds a more relaxed and more permanent effect. You don’t have to listen actively, the feeling is automatic. There is no escape. You could call Clark’s Sound melancholic or anxious, and it’s entirely fascinating. Especially in the tracks with Wareika singer Florian Schirmacher, which emphasise the full effect. Pressure Points is a timeless and universal album that will reveal more and more on every listen. This is music that gives its audience exactly what they need.
New Member // Philip Bader
We\'d like to welcome Philip Bader onboard the good ship Highgrade. Being one of the founders of the famous \"Karneval der Verpeilten\" open air in Berlin he set a new trend with his Sunday afternoon parties in the old Casino Yard called \"Gelee Royal\" which were the beginning of the legendary \"Sunday After\" parties in Berlin. Alongside his success as a host, he started spinning records in 1998 and is now one of the resident DJs at Bar25. So it was just the next logical step for him to start producing his own music.
His production debut was a release with Perry Roden on Monika Kruse\'s Label Electric Avenue in 2005, followed by successful releases on Kindisch, Stil vor Talent, Bar25, Supdub and recently on Highgrade.
If you\'re looking for a deep minimal Berlin techno sound for your party, then Philip Bader is the man for the job.

There is always something to celebrate, especially in Berlin. So, when it\'s our 10 year anniversary, you REALLY have a reason to party, and this one is going to spill over outside Berlin\'s boarders. For anyone who hasn\'t yet heard, Highgrade is turning 10, and we\'re partying with the release of an amazing double CD and tour. New Member // Mikael Stavostrand
Once again, we are very proud to present the newest pearl in our booking roster, Mikael Stavostand. He has been lauded as a key figure of the Swedish electronic music scene for his unique interpretations of minimal club techno as well as producing some of the most essential experimental electronic music of the past years.
He started to produce in the early nineties, but back then he was a part of the industrial scene he gained respect releasing some now labeled as "classic" records under different names. He has released over 40 12" Ep's and 19 Albums (CD, DLP, LP) so far and he has been featured on many compilation and mix records. He has been playing live sets around the world for the last few years. In Japan, North South America and all over Europe at respected clubs like the Panorama Bar, Fabric, Watergate, Arma 17 and many more.

Highgrade at GOA Madrid
Goa is a monthly meeting for electronic music lovers, taking place in Madrid. It runs during 12 hours of a non stop crazy Sunday and people join from anywere in Spain...also from Berlin!
On the 10th of October we left cold and rainy Berlin to our company outing, direction sunny and warm Madrid for a long and eventful weekend...which had nothing to do with a laid-back sightseeing short trip - It was hard work

Simon Beeston // dusty back room
All the way from New Zealand to the urban landscapes of Berlin, Simon Beeston is a man who likes diversity. This is not just evident in his choice of residence, but also in his musical output. Following an EP on Highgrade Digital and a track on our Various Artists Vol. VI record, Simon now presents “Dusty Back Room“, his first solo 12“ release on Highgrade. The EP opens with the title track “Dusty Back Room“, a track of strings and stabs, and a sound not exactly typical of previous Highgrade releases. But when the music comes with such compelling energy and provocative atmosphere, we’re prepared to make an exception. New Zealand meets Berlin as we cast an eye over green landscapes and ocean swells, while the bumpy groove intoxicicates us with its magic spell. That Simon Beeston is a man of great contrast is clearly evident on the B-side with “Neon Cringe“ and “Cymbolic“. The percussive heat of the club brings us back from the organic landscape of his homeland and into the neon lights of the night. “Neon Cringe“ resonates with a healthy dose of acid pump, while “Cymbolic“ provides a bass driven journey complete with cut up vocals and blistering cymbal rolls.
This is a release that richly deserves it’s round number: Highgrade Number 70. Especially with the addition of the bonus digital track “Tough Luck“, another highlight all of it’s own.

Highgrade VS. Freak n'Chic // MIKADO
As if the year 2009 hadn’t been eventful enough for Berlin label Highgrade and it’s French counterpart Freak n’Chic , both camps have found space in the program for another very special Tour de Force this November. Based on the similar philosophies of label founders Tom Clark and Dan Ghenacia, the two labels utiliize the skills of their existing artist rosters while continuing to discover new talents, and togehter, pay tribute to almost all the artists from both labels with this fresh musical collaboration. With the release of the „MIKADO“ compilation on Highgrade, Tom Clark, together with his label-partner Todd Bodine on the German side, send his most trusted regular artists Jens Bond, Heinrichs & Hirtenfeller, Homm & Popoviciu and Daniel Dreier into the game alongside newcomers Asem Shama, Demir & Seymen and Simon Beeston. On the French side, Dan Ghenacia sits alongside Anthony Collins, Shonky, David K, :Terry: and Seuil, making them a match fit and battle ready MIKADO brigade!
